Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kelowna?
I grew up in Nelson BC and have lived in Kelowna for about 11 years now!

Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
My love, because 1. He can make anything fun and 2. He is so authentically himself. He doesn’t worry about what other people think, he just does what feels right. Also, my family and close friends as they have the biggest hearts I have ever known!

What is your favourite local store in Kelowna and why?
Can I say the farmers market? It’s such a nice time and a great way to support locally.

Describe yourself in one word.
Feeler

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
I’d hop on a plane to Nicaragua where my sister is currently hosting a yoga retreat and soak up the ocean, sun, and the sand.

What is your favourite activity in Kelowna?
Last summer we went camping, fishing, and dirt biking and we plan on recreating that weekend a lot this year.

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
Anyone who knows me well knows that I become super sensitive for a few days each month (I’m sure you can guess which days!) and it can be so embarrassing because I become such a sap, I could cry at a toilet paper commercial!!

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
Anytime someone has put their total faith in me or believed in me more than I believed in myself, it has inspired me to be a better person every time.

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
My Grandparents were hosts at Herald Park and they would take me and my siblings and cousins camping with them for a few weeks each summer. I’ll never forget Grandma’s breakfast hot chocolates or Grandpa yelling “Yahtzee!” :)

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
I am just learning photography so I like to offer free photos to small local businesses to promote themselves. Through my handmade accessories business, my most recent donation was to Pink Shirt Day.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
Hunger and access to clean water. It kills me that there are so many people who don’t have a way to meet their basic needs. There are some great organizations that support this and I look forward to getting more involved in the near future.

Where would you sneak away to in Kelowna to spend some time alone?
My best alone time is dipping my feet in mission creek, it is so rejuvenating!

Where would you like to see positive change in Kelowna and why?
More safe bike lanes on some of the narrow roads, I am not a biker myself but have seen so many near misses with bikers on the narrow roadways.

What do you think makes Kelowna great?
The size, it is big enough for exploring and opportunity, yet small enough to feel like you know your community. And the beaches and restaurants of course!

What are 3 things on your bucket list?
-Have a family
-Live next to a river
-Travel 1-2 times a year

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I have a big love for theatre and used to act in plays.

How do people connect with you, personally, through social media? (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
Instagram @oneloveadornments

What is the name of your business/organization?
OneLove Adornments

Why did you get into/start this business?
I spent nearly my whole childhood crafting and creating. Somewhere in adulthood, I left it behind. Eventually, I could feel that something was missing and I began to create again. It felt wonderful and I began to build a brand that reflects my values.

What is the goal of your business?
To celebrate our many various forms of self-expression, to promote love and respect for self and others, and to contribute to organizations that are making the world a better place.

What has been your biggest struggle either at work or in life?
I feel like a lot of people, maybe women especially, might be able to relate to this one, and it’s being a people pleaser! I’m slowly learning that it doesn’t truly benefit anyone.

If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
I’m sure I could have saved myself a lot of pain if I’d known better! Haha. But my best self-growth has always come from pain, so I don’t think I would change it.

What do you always find yourself saying?
Many Anchorman quotes :)

Tell us your best piece of life advice.
"Listen less to other’s opinions and more to your own heart. Only you know what is truly right for you."

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
Rachel Platten, the singer. She is authentic, kind-hearted, and goofy.

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
Shopping locally creates a sustainable and supportive community :)

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
My relationships with the people I love.

Give someone you think that deserves it a shout out and explain why!
The Women’s Place Gym! They provide such a beautiful and positive environment for women to improve their health.

My choice for the KelownaNow In Focus spotlight is:
Helgesen Excavating and Blissed Out Yoga (my boyfriend and my sister’s businesses). I believe great businesses start with great people and these two consistently deliver with honesty and integrity.
