Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kelowna?
K: Born and raised!
C: From Nelson, but have lived in Kelowna since age 7.

What is your favourite local store in Kelowna and why?
We love Lost Together for affordable vintage finds, and the Green Vanity for the bod because Nikki is a skin wizard.

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
Morocco + the Middle East! We are currently planning a trip there as we speak. .

Where would you sneak away to in Kelowna to spend some time alone?
Our secret sand bar!

Where would you like to see a positive change in Kelowna and why?
We would like to see a better space for up and coming creatives; a space that could foster and nurture a continual community. Kelowna has so much potential to have a thriving scene, but without affordable and accessible space, people are having to migrate to bigger cities to be able to do what they love.

What do you think makes Kelowna great?
Support for local and handmade!

What are 3 things on your bucket list?
Our bucket list for our company not bad ceramics is:
1. Pop-up boot sale from back of car.
2. Long table dinner with handmade ceramics.
3. Apply for some small business grants.

How do people connect with you, personally, through social media? (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
Instagram: @notbadceramics

What is the name of your business/organization?
not bad.

Why did you get into this business?
not bad. organically started as a way for us both to spend time together creating. It was not originally intended as a business venture, but evolved into one because of the love and support from our community. Truly, it is just our little love child!

What is the goal of your business?
The dream would be to progress into owning a small interdisciplinary studio/co-op where we would create ceramics and other arts side by side other amazing creatives, as well as host workshops/events/gallery exhibitions and more!

What has been your biggest struggle either at work or in life?
Honestly the hardest part is finding a balance between friendship/work life and starting a business. As two people with full time jobs, time can be tight.

What do you always find yourself saying?
Not bad!

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
Not only is shopping local important for supporting those in the community so that they can continue to do what they love, it is more sustainable AND helps the local economy.

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
This past summer, not bad. hosted a pop-up market and art gallery entitled Rat Pack//Pack Rat that showcased a collection of truly talented humans/friends/artists from our community. Music played, poetry was spoken and art was sold, all in our front yard! The response from the event was incredible and highlighted how many cool people are hiding in Kelowna's shadows that would benefit from having an accessible space to show their work.

Give someone you think that deserves it a shout out and explain why!
Cal Merchant and Brayden Cowie of the band Joy Boys! They released their first single February 5th!

My choice for the KelownaNow In Focus spotlight is:
Nikki Hunter from the Green Vanity.
