In Focus | Mellissa Receveur

Meet Mellissa Receveur. She has lived in PG, Kamloops, Quesnel and the Lower Mainland!

Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
My husband. He’s extremely pleasing to look at and he’s the best human I’ve ever met. I really should mention my preteen/teenage daughters, though I would guarantee I’m not their favourite person to spend time with.

What is your favourite local store in Prince George and why?
Art Knapps. I'm a crazy plant lady.

Describe yourself in one word.
Dreamer.

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
The Philippines. My husband spent two years there serving a mission and I know he’s always wanted to go back.

What is your favourite activity in Prince George?
Camping!

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
Honestly, I offer myself up freely to embarrassment, unfortunately, it’s generally my husband who is sorely impacted.

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
Becoming a Mom. You become acutely aware that you need to lead by example. Nothing will inspire you to grow into the person you know you can be more than becoming a mother.

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
Gardening with my mom.

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
I love supporting the Hospice House.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
I believe it is possible to create change through empathy. Life would be less messy if, we stopped judging people based on experiences we don't/or can't understand. If, we stopped pointing our finger in blame, and decide to listen instead. If, we let go of anger and aimed to be more compassionate and understanding. And, if, instead of looking at one another, we made a conscious decision to look within one another.

Where would you sneak away to in Prince George to spend some time alone?
Ridgeview Trail.

Where would you like to see positive change in Prince George and why?
There have been so many positive changes to the community since we moved back eight years ago, I’m just excited to see what the next five years bring.

What do you think makes Prince George great?
After spending time living in different parts of the province I’ve really grown to appreciate that small town feel. It’s a pleasure leaving your house and knowing that you’ll likely run into someone you know.

What are 3 things on your bucket list?
1. Celebrate 50 years of marriage
2. Raise nice humans
3. Build the kitchen of my dreams

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I’m ridiculously funny. Even some of my closest friends don’t know this about me.

How do people connect with you, personally, through social media?
Website, Instagram, and Facebook.

What is the name of your business/organization?
Mellissa Receveur Photography.

Why did you get into/start this business?
I needed a creative outlet and photography was always something I found compelling.

What is the goal of your business?
I aim to create photos that convey a strong connection and a deep level of intimacy.

What has been your biggest struggle either in work or life?
Reminding myself that perfection is not a thing. I beat myself up continually over mistakes I've made or situations that are out of my control. It’s so important to constantly remind myself that I am human, I’m always trying my best, and that is enough.

If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
I wouldn’t change a thing. The journey is part of the process.

What do you always find yourself saying?
Sorry for the delay….

Tell us your best piece of life advice
Live Simple. Love BIG.

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
Jimmy Fallon.

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
When you support local entrepreneurs you are contributing to the realization of someone else's dream & that's pretty powerful.

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
My marriage.

Give someone you think that deserves it a shout out and explain why!
Michelle Knudsen, owner of The Current Hair Studio. I don’t think I’ve ever met a person with more determination and drive, she constantly inspires action in me, even though she doesn’t realize it. Keep killing’ it my friend!

My choice for the PrinceGeorgeNow In Focus spotlight is:
Michelle Knudsen- The Current Hair Studio.
