Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kamloops?
The short answer is, I am from Lillooet and have lived in Kamloops for five years this time. Nine years the first time.

Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
Favorite person(s) would be my family, we have always been close. I don't think I've ever gone more than five days without seeing/talking to them.

What is your favourite local store in Kamloops and why?
Motivo and Fratelli Foods. Both have a great atmosphere and great staff.

Describe yourself in one word.
Rational.

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
Italy. I have always been fascinated by the culture, architecture and of course the food.

What is your favourite activity in Kamloops?
Walking around downtown taking in the energy of everything... and is ice cream an activity? If it is than Scoopz is also my favourite activity.

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
High school, presenting a report in front of the whole class. It was bout the skeletal system and didn't realize how many times I had used the word bone until the class was busting up laughing. I ran with it and acted like I planned the whole thing.

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
For me, when I see a lot of wrong happening in the world people treating each other with hostility, stealing, bullying, greed. When I get to the point where I think there is no hope for humanity, that's usually the point where I see something small like an act of kindness that has no possibility of reward and reminds me it is good in the world.

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
Spending time with my grandparents. I was very fortunate to have both sets of grandparents until I was about 8, before losing both grandfathers about a year apart. During those eight years, I spent every weekend with them. I wasn't the only one, my cousins were there too. I wouldn't trade those years for anything, the most fun I've ever had.

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
I don't volunteer that much, but I always make sure to donate food when there a food drive and donate to Red Cross a few times a year.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
Reduce humanity's dependence on fossil fuels. It is used in many manufacturing processes. I am excited that our province has made an effort to reduce our dependence by banning the sale of gas-powered vehicles by 2040.

Where would you sneak away to in Kamloops to spend some time alone?
Riverside park... With a Scoopz cone of course.

Where would you like to see positive change in Kamloops and why?
Not sure how on the topic this is, but more parking downtown would bring some positive change lol.

What do you think makes Kamloops great?
Hands down the people. Kamloops seems to be ever-expanding, but the people stay the same. Always polite, friendly and helpful.

What are 3 things on your bucket list?
In no particular order:
-Explore Italy.
-Own a Telsa.
-Travel to Antarctica.

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I'm OCD lol. Nothing big, but enough that some people like to point it out.

How do people connect with you, personally, through social media?
IG: @NJK4635, FB: Neil Kane.

What is the name of your business/organization?
I work for the First Nations Health Authority as the Interior Regions Environmental Health Technician.

Why did you get into/start this business?
I've always enjoyed helping people and joining FNHA allows me to help 54 First Nation communities in the Interior.

What do you always find yourself saying?
I'm guessing you want some words of wisdom, but honestly, I find myself saying, "Wait, what was I doing?" Lol.

Tell us your best piece of life advice.
Live life to the fullest you can't take anything with you at the end.

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
Sir David Attenborough. I would love to spend the day listening to his experiences and thoughts about the world. When I was younger I used to follow my cat around the property recording her and narrating it in the style of Sir Attenborough.

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
Support the local economy and local families.

Give someone you think that deserves it a shout out and explain why!
Bills Gates. For his contributions to technology and his tireless efforts to help global poverty by donating/generating over $45 Billion through his charity.

My choice for the KamloopsBCNow In Focus spotlight is:
