Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kelowna?

I grew up on a farm outside of Humboldt, Saskatchewan. October 1st will be my 3-year anniversary of living in Kelowna!

Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
I couldn't pick just 1. I have deep, special connections with numerous people. And ultimately... I suppose my answer would be me! If you don't love yourself, it's hard to enjoy others!

What is your favourite local store in Kelowna and why?
Better Earth Gardens & Tropicals! My dear friend and her family run the most authentic, gorgeous greenhouse and gift shop! Absolutely beautiful people, plants, and decor.

Describe yourself in one word.
Creator.

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
That's a toss-up between Hawaii, because everyone says I need to go, and my mom's house- because I love and miss my family.

What is your favourite activity in Kelowna?

Being outside in general. The nature here has a strong pull on me, and nourishes me in ways I can't explain.

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
Ha! Ages 13-21?

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
I could (and may) write a book on that. Too much for here. But if I could simplify on an immense scale.. the most inspiring thing that has happened to me is when I started choosing to follow my heart.

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
I can't be too specific! Granny's house is often the setting of my precious moments. Growing up on our/her farm is something that's both challenging, grueling, beautiful, delicious, expansive. Becoming an adult and moving away has deepened my appreciation of many things. Cucumbers from the garden? Buckets of berries from Granny's orchard, homemade honey? Abundance at it's finest!

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
For love to rule over fear.

Where would you sneak away to in Kelowna to spend some time alone?
Well I'm not sure I want to share details on that!! My bedroom is my safe place. Beaches are great. The greenway...

Where would you like to see positive change in Kelowna and why?

I'm obviously biased with this one, and I'm already seeing big change - I love noticing the open-mindedness of the public with we healers/non-mainstream therapists. More and more people are looking to find inner harmony and balance, and are recognizing that this is key to wellness. I think people are also getting more accepting to the "weird" and unique gifts that we (all) have- which again is allowing healers and alternative therapists to become more popular.

What do you think makes Kelowna great?
Nature and the energy of the place.

What are 3 things on your bucket list?
Learn to (properly) dance- hip-hop, most importantly.
Learn to play the drums.
Write books.

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I haven't had a haircut in almost 3 years. (Should I be publically announcing that?)

How do people connect with you, personally, through social media? (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
Facebook is my main form of social media!

What is the name of your business/organization?

Nicole Schemenauer

Why did you get into/start this business?
When I was in rock-bottom depression, I was adamant to get to the root of my state. I tried something new- going for Reiki- and thought, one day when I'm well enough, I want to help others the way I've been helped with this.

What is the goal of your business?
Ultimately and simply, to help people feel good. Healing. Balance and harmony of mind, body, and spirit; trauma and emotional release; connecting back in to Source/our True Selves.

What has been your biggest struggle either at work or in life?
Keeping on the side of faith and abundance, rather than fear and lack.

If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
Exactly the same. Every little thing has created and unearthed what I am today- and while I'm not a perfect human, and I continuously strive to better myself, I love what I've become. Regret is a waste of energy!

What do you always find yourself saying?

You get bitter, or you get better. (This ties perfectly into my above response.)

Tell us your best piece of life advice.
"Self-love is everything. We can search everywhere outside of ourselves... but ultimately, you'll find that what you're looking for has been inside all along."

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
Ha... probably Jim Carrey. He is my spirit animal. I quote him on a daily basis, I think. He's given me more laughs than I can count, and now he's become very spiritual and awake, from what I can see, which makes me love him more!!

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
Supporting small businesses allows us to all do what we genuinely love and are good at. We each have something special to offer the world!

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
To simplify and restate myself- following my heart.

Give someone you think that deserves it a shout out and explain why!

Tanya Wishlove-Stott!! Because she is truly one of the most amazing humans on the planet! On top of being one of my dearest friends, the therapy I see her for- Somatic Experiencing Trauma Therapy- has changed me and my life in ways I simply can't explain.

My choice for the KelownaNow In Focus spotlight is:
Tanya Wishlove-Stott!!

Some general comments I would like to share are:
I am a Reiki Master and energy healer who offers Reiki sessions and classes, massage, oracle/tarot card readings, and other energy-based treatments.
