Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kelowna?

From the Tri-cities of Vancouver. I have lived in Kelowna for almost 7 years.

Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
My Husband. He continues to be my most favourite person in the world. After 11 years together we are still those two young 19 yr olds giddy with love.

What is your favourite local store in Kelowna and why?
Zangbell and Gill has been my go to spot to browse around and shop for the studio and also, canoe coffee is right next door. What better way to spend your afternoon than with a fresh local coffee in hand while you shop quality vintage?

Describe yourself in one word.
Positive.

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
Maui. Our little family is in dire need of some quiet beach time. Wailea and Kihei are our favourite.

What is your favourite activity in Kelowna?
Aside from drinking wine... I love visiting our friends at Spinco and Barreroom to get in my favourite workout!

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
There are not a lot of things I get embarassed by nowadays.. one thing that comes to mind is whenever I have to leave a spur of the moment voicemail to someone I typically end up saying something fairly dumb and end up rambling.

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?

Opening Our Yoga Space. Seeing all the tremendously accepting people in this community come and support us. On our opening weekend we had so many local studios and businesses come and be a part of bringing the vibes into this new space. We got gifts from sweet Jaclyn, owner of Okanagan Lifestyle, a beautiful plant from Modo Yoga, a bouquet of flowers from Solstice Yoga and welcome basket from Oranj Fitness and so much more. What an incredible way to welcome a new business into the downtown core of Kelowna. My love for this community is endless.

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
Laughing. I remember laughing a lot. There was a lot of not so laughable moments in my childhood with bullying and growing up but I still remember laughing so much. When my mom and I get together and one starts hysterically laughing, all is lost and its just tears, no noise and knee slapping for about 10 minutes.

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
At Our Yoga Space we have held different classes and charity events with proceeds going to a local charity. Coming up on Oct. 23rd we are holding a communityLOVE class taught by Hannah Day (MOGA) with all proceeds going to Kelowna Women's Shelter. If you're around we would love to have you! More info is on our website.
To add: come the new year we will be holding weekly communityLOVE classes with a $10 drop in donation with all proceeds going to a local charity or family of choice. Stay tuned.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
The value of Self Worth. I wish every single human on this earth could see their own potential and step into their dreams without fear.

Where would you sneak away to in Kelowna to spend some time alone?
My go to place right now as a busy mom and entrepreneur is Gravity Float and Wellness. It is the ultimate place to unwind and do absolutely nothing. I love it.

Where would you like to see positive change in Kelowna and why?
Just recently, the city changed all pay meters and lengthened the timeframe of paid parking in the downtown core. I hear way too often that people don't want to come downtown because of parking, having to pay till the wee hours of the evening. I feel like this deters people from coming downtown and supporting businesses because of this added fee. Especially in the slower winter months. It would be so lovely for locals to benefit from some sort of generic parking pass that allows them to pay a discounted amount to keep them coming downtown.

What do you think makes Kelowna great?
The community! And the wine!

What are 3 things on your bucket list?

African Safari
Eat pasta and drink wine in Italy
Attend a Mamas for Mamas Brunch that Jillian Harris and the Jilly team put on every year.

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I'm a fairly open book. If you want to know something about me, just ask!

How do people connect with you, personally, through social media? (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
I have a personal instagram account @taylormorriceyoga and the business one @ouryogaspace

What is the name of your business/organization?
Our Yoga Space

Why did you get into/start this business?
It was time. I had dreamt about opening my own space since 2009 and when it finally felt like the perfect time I made the jump and never looked back.

What is the goal of your business?
To bring the community together to enjoy the practice of yoga and better themselves to better serve others.

What has been your biggest struggle either at work or in life?
Staying true to myself and what I believe in without being pulled down or guided in a different direction out of influence. Really learning to listen to my gut.

If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?

100% the same. One tiny thing getting changed can change the entire outcome of your life. I think my life is pretty sweet and a bit salty and I totally love it.

What do you always find yourself saying?
"Get your shit together Tay"

Tell us your best piece of life advice.
Keep going. Whatever you are working towards, KEEP GOING.

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
Jillian Harris. I think what she is doing with her platform and brand is spectacular. She absolutely kills it with work, with her family and still finding the time to support local charities like Mamas for Mamas is so inspiring. It is actually a dream of mine to, one day, attend the Brunch that they hold with proceeds going to Mamas for Mamas. I hope when that day comes I am able to donate as much as I possibly can.

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
To support our peeps and their dreams. Shopping locally cuts out the middleman allowing for brands to make the money they deserve.

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
Getting to a place in my life where I feel confident and content in everything that I do. Letting go of what people think about you is such an empowering thing and at that point, the sky is the limit.

Give someone you think that deserves it a shout out and explain why!
My bookkeeper Sarah Papove. She is the Owner of Strategic Edge Consulting Inc., she has three children going on four and is completely crushing it.

My choice for the KelownaNow In Focus spotlight is:
My sweet friend, Jess Bergen. She just started a dream hobby of hers called Little Foot Photography that focuses on the first 48 hours with you newborn. @little.foot.photography

Some general comments I would like to share are:
Come visit me at Our Yoga Space. OYS is a lightly heated infrared yoga studio on Ellis St. downtown. Visit www.ouryogaspace.com for all the info!
Much love K-town.
Tay
