Trudeau holds ‘Poutine Summit’ with Belgian PM

The Belgian Prime Minister visited Canada on Friday and politics wasn’t the only thing on the menu.

Indeed, Belgian PM Charles Michel spent his first ever visit to Canada attending a “poutine summit” with Justin Trudeau and his wife.

Both leaders took to social media to share the moment.

“Friday poutine summit - welcoming PM Charles Michel of Belgium to Canada for the first time,” read Trudeau’s Instagram caption. “Thank you, Charles, for your partnership as our countries work together to help businesses thrive and our middle class prosper.”

Michel also appeared to enjoy the summit, tweeting that it was a “great way to meet a dear friend” despite the fact he believes Belgian fries are “better.”

The poutine and hot dog summit was held during a visit from the Belgian PM where both leaders reportedly discussed how Belgium and Canada could work more closely together to help grow their respective economies.
