Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for almost every region of the province as temperatures are expected to soar.

Record-breaking temperatures are expected to hit much of BC this week with highs expected to hit the 40s in the Okanagan. The UV Index is very high at 9, and will remain at that level from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. daily. When the UV Index is this high it does not take long to develop a burn, become dehydrated and suffer from heat stroke.

Residents are asked to check in on friends and family that are elderly and more prone to suffering hot weather related illnesses. Be sure to keep pets and children out of hot cars. It can take only a few minutes for a pet or small child to over heat and die in a hot vehicle left in the sun. No amount of time is safe to leave your pet in a car while running errands.
