Perspective

Perspective is a funny thing. In order to have it, you need to look at it through new eyes or thought pattern or time or space that you currently aren’t in. Perspective can be given to you but isn’t always agreed with.

On the other hand, perspective can be shared and really taken on and plugged into where you’re at. But the one most funny thing about perspective is that it isn’t until you choose to look at the situation with intention and reflection that perspective starts to change.

I’ve heard a lot of perspectives lately. I've listened to a lot of opinions and let’s be really clear here, perspective is another word for opinion. I’ve heard opinions on the Sugarplum Ball, I’ve heard perspectives on the LGBT2Q community, I’ve heard views on the problem with homelessness, the highways and building growth in the city. I’ve heard about religions, podcasts, beliefs, how to work for yourself and how to work on yourself and how to market yourself.

I’ve heard about how people step up to make change vs. not, how people should do business vs. not. and how people next door should live their life vs. not. I’ve heard how to heal your past and where and in what way. I’ve heard about why I am the way I am, how to navigate a relationship and do you want to know the most interesting part of this all?

None of them are right.

Stay with me...

When someone gives you their opinion on something and you don’t agree with you there is a hanging moment, whether you are conscious of it or not, where the energy changes and you feel you need to defend your opinion over there on your side of the conversation fence. The thing is when someone shares their perspective/opinion (whatever word works for you), it’s theirs - not yours!

Let’s not get into why you feel you have to defend yours let’s just leave it at: when the person in front of you is sharing their perspective/opinion, you can go hands-off and choose to let them have it - after all, you’re safe, you have no dangers to defend.

Then you can choose to tag-in and be brave to hear their perspective/opinion. You can let them contribute to your world by giving them space to share openly and honestly. If we all started operating like this in our conversations we might get somewhere further in shifting, shaping and uniting the collective perspective to move our relationships, friendships, businesses and broader community forward.

Happy Sunday,

xx
