The Work

These two words together may be brand new for you. The feelings of the work may be new to you too. This work isn't the work where you get paid to show up, do some things, and go home. For some of you, these words will be a reminder. The work I’m speaking to is the inner work. The down and dirty, real deal work. The working on yourself for the betterment of you, your mind + heart connection and for the greater good of the people around you.

The work is personal. The work is unique. The work is necessary. The work is sometimes elusive. The work requires discipline + follow through. This is challenging because we all have lots of what I like to call HDT (I literally just made that up): human distraction tools—cell phones, work, alcohol, shopping, sex, social media, screens, or any combination of the above.

The work is creating balance in your life between all the things that matter to you and letting go of the things that don't. The work is standing up and speaking out for what you believe in. The work is remaining humble to listen in and redefine old truths you’ve carried like suitcases for your entire life. When you learn to put your baggage down and drop outdated stories, profound healing comes in. And then you won’t pass it down to the little people you plan on raising...A man named Dr Gabor Maté, who is a renowned addiction expert and specializes in trauma and childhood development, says "Human possibility is always there, but it isn’t always realized." When us adults project our unconscious junk onto little people we are directly in the way of our child’s development and we in-turn squash their potential. I am not a mother but I want to be someday. Doing the inner personal work now creates fertile soil for little people to thrive in and who doesn’t want that?

You will work on yourself and seemingly heal parts of you that were fragmented, you will then see new work show up. This cycle keeps your growth fresh. Of course, it’s easier to do nothing. Of course, it’s easier to turn and look the other way. Of course, it’s easier to run away. And if you so much as begin to wake up to your inner work, it’s tough to fall back asleep, it’ll be harder to press below the surface, and it becomes too much to keep listening to the loud, fast-talking ego. Above the surface is where your intuition speaks in quiet voices.

The work requires attention. It demands something of you because in order to feel something different in your life you have to do something different. The work is an invitation. Just like you can click 'attending' on Facebook, you can easily just click 'interested' and hover below the surface of what’s really there. This invitation is more powerful than any Facebook event and holds the gems to unlock your future by healing your past. Yes, please.

The work helps you understand yourself on the inside. It shows you where you’re tangled and there lies opportunity. The work breaks you down and breaks you through. When you stay open to this inner work, you start to welcome it. You look for it. You find knots and begin the untying process. When your mind dives in front of moving cars all day long, creating drama and unneeded stress + anxiety, the work asks your heart to trust your life process. The work lets us have a clean slate if we want it. So, do you want it?

all the sunday love right at you,

xx
