Peachy views from the top of Pincushion Mountain

Trail: Pincushion Mountain

Trail length: 4 kilometres, round-trip. 1.5- 3 hours.

Trail Difficulty: Moderate

Directions:

The trail is located in Peachland, BC. Turn on Ponderosa Drive from Highway 97. Drive all the way to the top of Ponderosa until you reach the gravel parking lot.

Description:

Pincushion Mountain is one of my favorite trails here in the Okanagan. The panoramic views overlooking Peachland and the Okanagan Lake are amazing!

This 4 kilometre roundtrip is accessible all year round and is definitely worth the uphill climb. The trail begins with steps helping us climb to the first of many viewpoints along the way.

After the first 250 metre climb, we reached a dirt road. We continued right for about 50 metres and reconnected with the trail on the left. We switched back through the forest, gaining elevation with every step, to yet another fantastic view spot. The moss covered trees have yellow and red trail markers, so it's easy to follow all the way to the top. Once we reached the summit, the views were outstanding. We found a perfect place to relax on a picnic table and enjoy the views of the Okanagan. We also found a log book inside a little mail box attached to the flag pole. After taking some pictures and signing the log book, we decided to head back down the trail.

Don't forget to “stop and smell the roses” along the trail. Although the summit views are the end reward, the journey to the top is just as rewarding.

Always be mindful of your surroundings, pack out what you pack in, stick to the trails, and happy exploring!

Things to have:

  • Good hiking shoes
  • Water
  • Bear spray (always a good thing to carry)
  • Hiking Poles, if needed
  • Camera/Phone

*Dogs are welcome
