7 things to do with your dad this weekend in Kelowna

It's Father's Day on Sunday and if your dad is in Kelowna, we've put together a list of things you can do that says, 'hey, dad, this day's for you.'

Check out these seven ways to spend the day with your pops.

1. For the active dad

If your dad loves to get his workout in, then imagine the added bonus of YOU joining him.

Here's a race that's happening this Sunday at 8 a.m. at Waterfront Park to raise awareness for prostate cancer. The Raymond James Father's Day Walk/Run also boasts a free pancake breakfast.

Here's a slower paced, but active adventure: GOGA. That's right, it's yoga with goats. This animal-zen adventure takes place at Hoof Prints Barnyard on Sunday from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

2. For the dad with the need for speed

The Penticton Speedway creates the perfect noisy, smelly, engine-roaring track atmosphere that you'd expect from watching Days of Thunder. This is a real treat for the dads who love the hair-back-blowing rush of car racing. Hurry to get there, as the race takes place this Saturday at 3 p.m.

The car show in Kelowna takes things at a slower, parked pace. The 18th Annual Father's Day Car Show features classics from the early 1900s and up. It's a great place to walk around, take pictures and find out why the Model T just happens to be your dad's favourite pick.

As a follow-up event, take your dad to Princess Auto and offer to buy him something special.

3. For the dad with the hook, line and sinker

If you've heard your dad say, 'Early bird catches the worm,' (replace bird with fish), or witnessed a long-finned story where hand gestures get further apart with time, chances are your dad might be a fisherman. This is a great activity because it requires little skill. Even if you've never tried it before, all you need to do is show up, bring drinks and snacks and get ready to shoot the breeze or sit in long periods of silence (depending on your dad).

As an added bonus, the Province is waiving the requirement of a fishing license for Father's Day on Sunday. The 18th Annual British Columbia Family Fishing Weekend runs all weekend with events in Kelowna and an event set up at Lambly Lake and Bear Lake. You can even borrow gear just to get you in the game.

4. For the dad who plays the long game

If your dad's a golfer, he may already be loading his clubs into the car for his regular weekend tee-offs. But whether he's a regular or a once-a-year hobbyist, there are a few events happening just for dads on the green this Sunday.

If you'd rather watch then play, the GolfBC Championship finishes its last day of the tour on Sunday. Here's a chance to scope out the future pros who you might end up at the PGA one day.

5. For the dad who likes to crack a cold one

Wine tours aren't for everyone. Take your dad on a DIY beer tour in the Okanagan.

Here are few locations that offer beer tastings: Tree Brewing Institute, Kettle River Brewing, BNA, Boundary Brewing Company, Freddy's Brew Pub, Bad Tattoo and Canary Brewing are just a few options.

A Father's Day Beer & Distillery Tour is also being put on by Club Wine Tours on Sunday in the morning and the afternoon. The tour takes you throughout Kelowna, including a stop for a drink and putt-off at the Michaelbrook Golf Course.

6. For the spectator dad

'Take me out to the ball game,' might just be the tune your dad's been whistling. The Kelowna Falcons step up to the plate Sunday night at 6:35 p.m. Book your tickets online to beat the line-up.

If he likes the big screen, take him to see Wonder Woman. This film has already made $500 million at the box office.

If you're looking for an even more locally-played game, check out the Andre Blanleil Sr. Memorial Fastball Tournament, happening all weekend long.

7. For the dad with the hunger game

Burgers, wings and everything in between are foods offered at eateries scattered throughout the Valley.

If you're looking for a good burger, Red Robin, 5 Guys Burgers and Fries, the Burger Baron, and Central Kitchen and Bar have all kinds of patty and condiment options.

For a special Father's Day event, the Harvest Grille is putting on a Father's Day BBQ Buffet. Seating options run from 10:30 a.m.to 2:30 p.m.

The Kelowna Yacht Club is putting on a lunch and dinner event for members and non-members, telling dads to 'put down the BBQ tongs.'

So whatever you choose, remember the day is just about spending time with your dad and sharing the day together.

Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there, both with us and to the ones that have passed.
