If you happen to be spending Thanksgiving alone this year, don’t fret. Lots of us will be.
There’s still plenty of things you can do to make the holiday a little less lonely - enjoyable even.
It’s a great chance to be a master chef in the comfort of your own kitchen, and there won’t even be any judges waiting to critique your meal. If cooking is out of the question, don’t despair, because there’s lots of alternatives, like ignoring the holiday all together.
Here are some suggestions on how to make the most of this Thanksgiving if you’re doing it solo.
One of the hardest things about preparing a Thanksgiving meal is trying to satisfy every guest on the list. The positive side to spending it alone is that you have complete control over the menu, so why not just cook all your favourite sides and desserts?
Put your chef hat on and get into cooking up something really amazing. The options are endless, so spoil yourself!
If you don’t want to spend the night anywhere near a kitchen, spending an evening at the movie theatre might be a great option for you. It gives you the chance to be around other people if you don’t want to be at home by yourself, and you get to choose the movie!
Just like going to the theatre, this allows you to be able to enjoy some company during the holiday feast. You can always get someone else to cook up a hot meal for you this Thanksgiving. Just pick your favourite restaurant! Plenty of places have Thanksgiving specials so that you can still have a turkey dinner without breaking a sweat in the kitchen. If being around other people isn’t your thing, you could also order in and chow down in the comfort of your pajamas!
If you have the day off, it might be a great opportunity to cross something off your bucket list, solo style. Take a scenic hike, visit an attraction you’ve been meaning to see, or just go for a drive to a brand new city and explore a bit! It’s hard to be lonely when you’re trying something new. You don’t have to wait until you have company to do the things you want to do!
The pressure of doing something, anything, on a holiday like Thanksgiving is probably the hardest part of spending it alone. So, just try and let it go. Take the day to just look after yourself. Do the things that you like to do and just take it easy. Whether that means soaking in a nice hot bath and having a spa day, watching your favourite movies with some bomb snacks, or just carrying on with your normal routine, you can have a great Thanksgiving without overeating at the dinner table alongside a plethora of other people.
The point of Thanksgiving is to be grateful for what you have, so just count your blessings! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
