For a city of 127,500 residents, Kelowna sure has some traffic issues.
Harvey, Glenmore, Lakeshore and the much maligned William B Bennett bridge can all be a commuting nightmare.
The latest portion of 2016 census data, released Wednesday by Statistics Canada, revealed Kelowna drivers save an entire seven minutes traveling to work compared to the average Canadian commute time.
Canadians spent an average of 26.2 minutes travelling to their workplace last year.
In Kelowna, commuters spent an average of 19.8 minutes commuting to work.
On average, it takes a B.C. resident 25.9 minutes to get to work. That’s compared to 10 minutes for someone in Nunavut and 28.8 minutes for someone in Ontario, the longest commute time in Canada.
Personal vehicles continue to be the method of choice when it comes to commuting in Kelowna.
According to Statistics Canada, only 3.9%of residents use public transit to get to work, 7.2% commute by active transportation such as bicycles while a whopping 86.1% of all commuters take a personal vehicle to work.
