With craft breweries sprouting up like sunflowers and an already well established downtown pub scene, it’s not news that Kelowna has plenty of great watering holes.
But the most drinking establishments per capita in Western Canada? That may come as a surprise.
In fact, the Okanagan’s largest city is rivaled only by the famously hard drinking towns of St. John’s Newfoundland and Saguenay, Quebec when it comes to drinking establishments per 10,000 people.
According to Statistics Canada, Kelowna has two to three bars (or drinking establishments) per 10,000 people, which is the highest in Western Canada.
Only the Eastern cities of St. John’s, Moncton and Saguenay have the same ratio when it comes to drinking establishments to people.
Vancouver and Victoria were not very far behind according to Stats Can, with one to two bars per 10,000 residents.
Downtown Kelowna will soon see another quality drinking establishment when the Craft Beer Market takes over the old Paramount Theatre, which opens next year.
