A Kelowna development is set to become the first of its kind in Canada. Collett Manor is a multi-use development that is working towards a very special certification that will acknowledge the superior design and building choices that have been determined with the health and wellness of residents, tenants, and visitors in mind. This process will see Collett Manor become Canada’s first WELL Certified® project.
The certification will be the confirmation that Collett Manor has met the Delos® WELL Building Standard, a protocol that ensures that human wellness is a focus of the given building project. The protocol is the result of six years of research by Delos® and a team of leading scientists, doctors, architects, and wellness thought leaders. The WELL Building Standard sets performance requirements in seven categories: air, water, nourishment, light, fitness, comfort and mind, that are validated through on-site post-occupancy performance assessments.
Essentially, the WELL Certification™ is similar to a LEED Certification, though WELL is to promote health and well-being, where LEED promotes environmental responsibility. In fact, the certification process is administered by the International WELL Building Institute, but is third-party certified by the same organization that provides certification for LEED.

“In our mission to integrate hospitality into healthcare, we discovered Delos® which pioneered the WELL Building Standard®,” explains the entrepreneur behind Collett Manor, Alana Marrington. “They shared our philosophy: to introduce scientifically validated features to positively impact health, vitality and bring an overall sense of relaxation into the spaces we live, work or visit.”
Collett Manor will be located across from the Kelowna General Hospital, a location decision that was made with health and wellness in mind. Upon completion, the facility will integrate hospitality and healthcare, with both residential and commercial units. Perhaps most importantly, owners may include their units in a rental pool that will provide healthy, safe, and mentally calming accommodations for families who are in need of close access to KGH, or those who are visiting the city and are in need of such a space.
“Collett Manor was founded on our experiences caring for family and friends as they moved through the medical system. We focused on providing a place to stay, short term, home away from home," Marrington says of the driving force behind the project. “Thats why we designed a space that adapts to life. Homes designed to encourage positive and healing energies whether you are there short term or for permanent residence. Commercial space also benefits from the same healthy details as the residential.”
(Photo: Collett Manor) While the interior of the building is largely modern, the exterior is designed to integrate with the nearby historical neighbourhoods. Landscaping around the building will also be edible and nontoxic, for added safety.
The facility, designed by GTA Architects Ltd, is the result of more than a decade’s worth of passionate research. Marrington and her team have spent countless hours pouring over research and inspecting building materials and technologies that can help to improve life, as well as the overall space.

Flexible wall systems that transform units from one to two bedroom units
Warmboard radiant heating
An innovative flooring material that deactivates bacteria and harmful substances
Technologically advanced design that includes connectivity to your unit, including remote door locking/unlocking
Landscaping that is completely edible and nontoxic
Luxury design elements, including antimicrobial Corian countertops and touchless faucets
