VIDEO: Cougars cat-ching a ride on Translink tracks

Translink employees caught some unwanted traffic on the tracks early Friday morning.

The cameras spotted two cougars walking down the tracks at about 4:15 a.m. in Port Moody.

"There were two unusual visitors at Inlet Station along the Millenium Line Extension in Port Moody," said a spokesperson for Translink.

The camera shows footage of the cats walking along the guideway inside the station.

"We are inspecting fencing to ensure there are no easy ways in for the cats. We will also be watching in case they return."

Conservation officers have been alerted to the sighting and staff have been sent a warning, but the animals have not been spotted since.

Translink said this is the first time they've spotted cougars, but have had other animal encounters before.

"There have been coyote and raccoon sightings in the past. We also see domestic animals on the tracks now and then."

Translink believes the cougars were spotted at this site because the Evergreen extension runs through less populated areas where wildlife encounters are more likely.
