A disgusting and disturbing act of animal cruelty has people in Saskatchewan wondering who could possibly hurt a defenceless kitten at a music festival.
Over the weekend, individuals who attended the country music festival, Craven Country Jamboree, drenched a kitten with alcohol and lit it on fire. The behaviour was noticed by others and the cat taken by RCMP and rushed to the TM’z Veterinary Clinic in Lumsden, Sask.
The staff at the clinic immediately began caring for the kitten, who they named Jamboree, and put her on pain medications. The clinic posted information about what had occurred at Craven on their Facebook page and have since been flooded with comments. From those expressing their outrage at what happened to others offering money and support for the kitten, the comments of concern have been in the thousands.
Thankfully, Jamboree looks like she will make a full recovery despite what happened. The clinic said that she would not have survived it wasn’t for the concern from festival attendees who alerted authorities about the situation.
“We appreciate all the care and concern regarding Jamboree's condition and recovery. At the end of the day, her suffering could have been prevented, if not for the poor choices of a few,” said the clinic in a statement. “Jamboree is fortunate to have so many that care for her. It really is all about her and her recovery.”
The event organizers have condemned the act and said it will not be tolerated.
“In all of our years of entertainment and working festivals and fairs we have never experienced an incident like this,” said organizers in a video message on Facebook.
“The moron hurt a cat.”
The organizers go on to say that Jamboree will hopefully become their official mascot and be adopted by one of the senior organizers. The person involved in the incident was immediately evicted from the grounds and the RCMP is now investigating. Police say the investigation is ongoing and charges have not been laid against any suspects involved.
