A man who was wanted across the country in relation to the death of his 7-year-old stepson is now in police custody.
On Tuesday evening, at about 5:15 p.m., 43-year-old Justin Kuijer of St. Catharines was arrested by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Kenora, Ont.
Officers from the Kenora Detachment of the OPP responded to a 911 call from a member of the public. They found a 2009 Pontiac Montana van in a parking lot with Kuijer inside. He was alone and arrested without incident.
Earlier this week, a Canada Wide Warrant was issued by the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) for Kuijer’s arrest. He will be returned to the Niagara Region in the days to come.
"We would like to thank the public, the media, and our law enforcement partners for their continued support over the last few days,” said lead investigator and NRPS Homicide Detective Sergeant Brian Bleich. “Their efforts have led to the capture of Kuijer, and some small semblance of closure for the victims and their families."
Kuijer is facing a possible charge of 1st degree murder after the death of his 7-year-old stepson Nathan Dumas.
He was also wanted in relation to the attempted murder of a female RBC bank employee on the same day.
