Amazon’s year long quest to find a new location for its headquarters has finally come to an end.
The eCommerce giant considered 238 cities as candidates for “HQ2” and in a surprising decision, Amazon has chosen two separate locations.
New York City and Arlington, Virginia will both be home for HQ2, which will bring a $5-billion investment and 25,000 jobs to the two cities.
Toronto was the only Canadian city out of 20 to be short listed, it’s bid touting the city as a culturally diverse, safe and affordable hub.
The company had indicated it wanted to locate near a metropolitan area with more than a million people; be able to attract top technical talent; be within 45 minutes of an international airport; have direct access to mass transit; and be able to expand that headquarters to more than 740,000 square metres in the next decade.
Amazon’s new locations will join Seattle as the company’s three headquarters in North America.
