Canadian government issues travel advisories as storms prepare for landfall

Canadians are being urged by their government to avoid traveling to several areas as heavy stroms prepare to make landfall.

An advisory to "avoid all travel" for the U.S. East coast, from Edisto Beach in South Carolina to the North Carolina-Virginia border, has been issued to Hurricane Florence.

The category four storm is expected to hit America’s Eastern Coastline by Thursday and is forecast to bring “life-threatening” storm surge.

Ottawa has also warned against non-essential travel to Martinique, Guadeloupe and Dominica because of tropical storm Isaac.

Air Canada and WestJet Airlines also issued travel advisories and offered to allow passengers to change certain flights free of charge to affected areas in the U.S. southeast, Barbados and Hawaii.
