Police in Saskatchewan catch vehicle driving around with top completely ripped off

Police in the Prairies dealt with a very interesting and dangerous situation this week.

According to RCMP, around 5 pm on Wednesday, officers in Glaslyn, Sask, responded to reports of a dangerous vehicle travelling north on Hwy 4, just south of Meadow Lake. The car allegedly tried to pass a vehicle on the shoulder of the highway but struck a semi-truck in the process.

Following the incident, the vehicle sped off despite its roof being completely ripped off.

A short time later, officers were called to another area of the highway after travellers reported seeing a vehicle with "extensive damage" heading north. Officers located the vehicle and attempted to pull it over, though it kept on driving.

"Officers continued to follow the vehicle, which drove through the city and stopped at a residence on the east side," wrote police. "Once it was determined the lone female driver was not injured, she was transported to Meadow Lake Detachment. She was then re-assessed for any injuries."

Further investigation revealed that the woman was heavily intoxicated. She was four times the legal limit.

“The state of this car speaks for itself,” said S/Sgt. Ryan How. “I’ve responded to many impaired driving investigations as a police officer. This incident could have been tragic. I'm thankful in this instance no one, not the individual or the members of the public travelling on the same roadway, was injured.”

A search of the car resulted in the seizure of six empty bottles.

The 27-year-old was charged with Impaired Operation of a Conveyance, Impaired Operation While Over the Legal Limit, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Flight From Police and Failure to Stop After an Accident.
