After two young girls were shot while playing in a park in Scarborough, Ont. on Thursday night, Toronto Police have made an arrest.
On Friday, police arrested Sheldon Eriya, age 21, of Markham. He has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of aggravated assault, possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, possession of proceeds of crime, and discharging a firearm.

He was scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall this morning.

Eriya allegedly opened fire on another man who was in the park, located in the McCowan Road and Alton Towers Circle area. There were 11 young children in the park at the time of the shooting.
The shooter missed the target, but the stray bullets struck a pair of girls aged 5 and 9. The two girls were taken to hospital and underwent surgery for their injuries. Their injuries are not life threatening, according to police.
