In a recent report by Statistics Canada, Kelowna was named the fastest growing metropolis area in BC. For residents of Kelowna, it’s clear that our flourishing city is quickly establishing a new identity as an urban destination for young professionals seeking opportunity, lifestyle and more affordable real estate options than in bigger cities. With an influx of people relocating to Kelowna, living downtown in the heart of the action is an attractive option for many people. As suburban living is often surpassed by the desire to work, play and socialize within walking distance of home, what does the future of urban living look like?
Downtown Kelowna has become a vibrant, cultural destination for people of every generation. The list of things to do is plentiful and The Stockwell Downtown is here to show you the wealth of amenities and activities at your fingertips if you made the move downtown.
If you’re lucky enough to both live and work downtown, your day-to-day looks pretty great. Picture waking up in the morning and strolling down to Bean Scene for your AM espresso fix. You can forget about that frustrating morning commute, and instead make your way to work on foot or by bike. Soak up the sun out on the boardwalk during your lunch break, and head out for a kayak or paddleboard to de-stress after work.
Just because it’s a weeknight doesn’t mean you have to hibernate at home. There’s always live music going on at Fernando's Pub or for something different, you can catch a performance at the Kelowna Community Theatre. Finally, if you’re looking for a fun evening in a relaxed atmosphere, head to BNA Brewing Co. for house crafted beer and locally sourced comfort food.
"Baby, it’s cold outside," but don’t let that stop you! Downtown Kelowna transforms into a magical and festive place over the holidays, so bundle up and take in everything the city has to offer at this special time of year!
Try skating with the family at Stuart Park’s outdoor ice rink, or go on a hunt for Santa downtown. If you happen to find him and take a photo, all you have to do is share it on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter for a chance to win $250 (just tag #DKSpotSanta). Get started on your gift list at some of Kelowna’s unique downtown shops, and be sure to catch the Downtown Kelowna Light-Up on Saturday, December 3rd.
Start off your Saturday with a jog along the waterfront or take the kids to the playground at City Park. If it’s Sunday, skip the run altogether and consider checking out the hip-hop brunch at Krafty Kitchen + Bar for some mind-blowing food and old school hip hop tracks. Browse some of the many boutiques located in the downtown core, then head for an afternoon swim at Hot Sands Beach.
Summer evenings are always packed with people and events downtown. There’s music in the park with the Parks Alive! series, as well as street performers and a hoppin’ nightclub scene. Don’t forget to stay tuned for the announcement of next year’s artists for Rock the Lake and grab your tickets early.
As Kelowna continues to grow, downtown is going to remain at the centre of it all. If you’re part of the growing number of people who want to directly experience the energy that comes from living at the heart of the action, consider The Stockwell Downtown for everything you need just steps away from your door—because life happens downtown.
