A comeback year for the classic, 2019 saw an increase in attendees, funds and fun — a sight that chairman Brad Grittner says has been “absolutely amazing.”

“Last year we really managed to step up and now we have managed to raise the most money ever at a Kelowna Vipond tournament within the last 34 years,” said Grittner.

The donations to Pathways will go on to assist the organization in obtaining a new wheelchair accessible van for their Activity Service, an item that executive director Charisse Daley says they are in desperate need of.

“For the last 30-plus years this tournament has supported us in purchasing things that are not able to be covered by contracts, and because we don’t get a lot of funding increases, it has helped keep us operational,” she said.

“The tournament is full of great teams of extremely generous men and we are grateful to them, David Walker of the KGCC and his members, for giving up their course in order to help make this tournament happen each year,” added Daley.

According to David Walker, the general manager of the KGCC, hosting the event ties in perfectly with the courses mandates and they are happy to be a part of it each year.

“The event is historical in nature and it is a fixture on our schedule each year because we are all about supporting local here,” said Walker. “It is good for us to be involved and assist in keeping the funds raised right in our community and especially having it go to Pathways — it feels great!”

While the tournament is nearly at capacity for next year, you can still lend a hand by volunteering with Pathways or by sponsoring the event!
