Development near UBCO using technology to help buyers design their ideal homes

University Heights, a new community of hillside single-family homes near UBC Okanagan, is offering clients the opportunity to bring their dream home to life.

By utilizing Chief Architect® Software, the sales team is able to create 3D home renderings based on the client’s requests, and the design can be completed, altered and viewed in real time.

The program allows everything in the home to be customized, from the placement of walls and windows, to the type of finishings, to paint colours and more. It’s even possible to drop in furniture to make sure that everything fits and matches perfectly. Clients can also place the home on the lot of their choice and take a virtual tour.

The builder, Ovation Homes, also uses a proprietary costing software so that clients can easily see how changes to the design would affect the cost of the home. This way, if clients realize that a certain upgrade puts them over budget or that the funds could be better spent elsewhere, they can decide to take a different direction with the design.

All of this is done with the help of Teresa Greene, the Sales and Marketing Manager at University Heights, who meets with clients and designs the homes based off their requests. She starts by asking the client questions to get to know them and their family’s lifestyle, and then takes these ideas and transforms them into a preliminary floor plan. The client then gets to review the plan and suggest changes, all while keeping track of the cost of the home and budget, until the perfect plan is created.

Having worked in the construction industry for years and raised a family of her own, Greene understands that designing a home is a personal experience and that every detail matters.

“Homes are people’s sanctuaries, and it’s important to respect that,” said Greene. “It’s not just the biggest financial investment of their life, it’s an emotional investment as well. It’s where they come after a long day to relax and feel comfortable.”

“My favourite part of my job is having a family come in thinking they can’t get what they want for the price they want, and then figuring out how to make it work,” added Greene.

The team at University Heights and Ovation Homes aims to make the process of building your home as enjoyable as possible with flexible guidelines, plenty of styles to choose from and high-quality, customizable finishings included in the base cost.

They also offer fixed price contracts, meaning that the price you agree to cannot be raised, even if the cost of materials or labour rises — no unpleasant surprises! On top of that, you can design your home risk free with zero deposits or commitments. If you aren’t happy with the design or find a better option elsewhere, you are free to walk away, hands clean.
