Summertime in Kelowna is pretty tough to beat, especially when there’s so much to do right in the downtown core.
It would be impossible to include every amazing business, event and activity that you can enjoy in downtown Kelowna this summer, but here are some fun ideas to get you started!
With so many new breweries popping up in the North End, touring these local hot spots and enjoying a few pints is quickly becoming a classic Kelowna activity.
You can easily tour a number of breweries in the downtown core by foot, or get a group of friends together and book a Smile Cycle Tour if you’re looking to try something different. Try some new brews while you’re at it and you might just find your new favourite drink of the season!
What goes better with beer than some tasty and comforting food truck eats?
The number of amazing food trucks in the downtown area is growing every year, so this is a pretty big task. But if you’re willing to accept the challenge, we’re sure you won’t be disappointed.
Need a few ideas to help get you started? Surf Side California, which is often posted up by Red Bird Brewing, has some of the best fish tacos around. The CrAsian Food Truck is known for its tasty American-Asian hybrid dishes and Little Tokyo Ramen serves up some amazing ramen — both can often be found at Kettle River Brewing, but follow them on social media for updates.
Don’t forget to also try Artisto Gelato which can usually be found by Stuart Park, keep calm and curry on at the Poppadoms food truck and get your plant-based fill at Renegade Kitchen Food Truck. These are just a few of the many delicious options you’ll find downtown!
Starting on June 16th, the Kelowna Farmers’ and Crafters’ Market will be reopening its downtown satellite market.
The satellite market takes place on St. Paul Street from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Sunday throughout the summer. It’s a perfect way to stock up on local goodies and fresh produce for the coming week!
One of the best things about summertime in downtown Kelowna? The beaches and Okanagan Lake in all its shimmery glory.
Relaxing on the beach is the perfect way to spend a day, but this summer, why not really take advantage of all that the water has to offer? Try a new activity, like parasailing! You can also rent paddleboards, kayaks, Sea-Doos, watercraft and other toys at the Downtown Marina.
Looking for something a little more relaxing? Maeg’s BBQ Boats is a fun experience for all ages!
Name a better way to spend a sunny afternoon. We’ll wait.
Choose from one of the many flavours at Moo-Lix (if you’re not sure where it is, just follow the amazing waffle cone aroma), or head to Parlour Ice Cream for a locally sourced, hand-crafted treat (soooo good).
Paul’s Tomb isn’t technically downtown, but the start of the trail is nearby! You can either begin at the base of Knox Mountain or the first lookout point, and then walk or bike along the trail to your destination.
You’ll arrive at a beautiful, rocky beach with clear water and a spot for cliff jumping. Pack some snacks and spend the day exercising and soaking up the sun! This ‘hidden’ gem is a Kelowna favourite.
There are always fun events and shows happening downtown, so keep your eye out for posters and listings to find the ones that interest you most!
A few big ones this year include Kelowna Pride from June 15 to 22, Magic! performing at the Island Stage on June 21, the Canada Day Festival on July 1, the Downtown Kelowna Block Party on July 13, Rock the Lake from August 9 to 11, and the Kelowna Comic Con on August 24 to 25.
At the beginning of each month, KelownaNow does a roundup of upcoming live music shows called ‘Live! In Kelowna’. You can find them on our Music page.
Batter up! There’s something nostalgic about catching a ball game on a Friday evening.
The Kelowna Falcons have home games at Elks Stadium starting in June. Gather your friends, grab a ticket and cheer on your local team!
It wouldn’t be a proper summertime bucket list if we didn’t include patio hopping. It just wouldn’t.
There is no shortage of pitcher-perfect patios (see what we did there?) in downtown Kelowna. Take in the views at Perch, choose from hundreds of beers and play shuffleboard at Craft Beer Market, hit up happy hour at Earls, hangout on Kelly O’Bryan’s recently renovated patio (don’t forget the pachos), hit up Central for awesome food and vibes and get in on some giant jenga at Train Station Pub.
You can also find great patios along Bernard Avenue and at the breweries.
These are just a few of the fun activities to enjoy this summer, and the reasons why downtown is a sought-after area to live.
If you’re interested in owning a home in downtown Kelowna and enjoying amenities such as access to a private rooftop patio on the 25th floor - the tallest of its kind in Kelowna - Brooklyn at Bernard Block is a great new option with an impressive walk score of 98%. Located downtown, this new concrete condominium under construction by Mission Group just launched its final collection of homes on June 1st and is 90% sold. Brooklyn also features a community garden, parking with each home, bike storage, a dog wash station and no rental restrictions, providing all homeowners with complete flexibility of ownership. Homes start at $369,900 for a one bedroom, and $499,900 for a two bedroom. Brooklyn is estimated for completion spring 2021.
Brooklyn at Bernard Block is a new 25-storey concrete condominium tower right in the heart of vibrant downtown Kelowna, at 1471 St. Paul Street.
