The summer of convenience, brought to you by One Stop

As the reflection of the sun glistens on the lake, you lay in its warm embrace suntanning on City Park's beach. Nearby, some of your favourite people share stories and jokes while you find yourself wondering if this moment can get any better... when suddenly, this perfect moment is interrupted by your hunger.

Your growling stomach begins to ripple in tandem with the waves lapping on the shore and you dive deep into your bag in desperate pursuit of satisfaction, only to discover that you're out of snacks - and notice that you're getting pretty low on water too.

Considering your options, do you give up this spot in the sun to go indoors and eat or do you pack up and walk all the way to Safeway for something to eat and drink? Either way, your perfect spot on the beach will likely be taken by the time you return.

But then you remember about that story on KelownaNow...

Yeah, the one about Bernard Avenue's newest convenience store, One Stop.

"brb," you say to your friends and quickly dart off to One Stop, situated between Okanagan Spirits Craft Distillery and Tim Hortons on Bernard Avenue.

Within minutes, you've arrived and notice how this convenience store is unlike any other you've seen before.

There's artwork, sunglasses, sunscreen, hats, floaties, tons of food to choose between, drinks galore, scoop and soft serve ice cream, slushies and some crazy combination of ice cream and a slushy called a Screamer!

It's almost as if whoever thought of One Stop knew exactly what locals wanted in Downtown Kelowna: convenience next to the beach.

Because it didn't take long for you to travel here from the beach, you casually browse the many shelves in search of exactly what you'd like to eat.

Coming across fresh sandwiches and samosas, you ponder the pairing possibilities of these delicious treats and as you look around some more, you notice that One Stop has several ice cream toppings. Even better, there isn't a wait.

Gazing upon the mouth-watering toppings, your eyes pass over a freezer full of colourful frozen pebbles called Mini Melts!

Never seeing anything like this before, you ask the cashier, "what are Mini Melts?" They proceed to tell you that after delighting children in 20 countries across the world, these frozen ice cream and sorbet pebbles have made their way to Kelowna and One Stop is the only one who has them!

Easily convinced, you fill up a hat-shaped cup of Mini Melts, grab a sandwich, fill up a refreshing fountain beverage and then return to the cashier.

<who>Photo Credit: One Stop</who>Screamer, Ice Cream Toppings and Mini Melts! As you're paying, the cashier tells you about the Canco Loyalty Card that'll earn you 2% cash-back on any purchase made in-store (some conditions apply), plus two-cents off per litre at Canco Gas Stations and 1% back on lottery tickets at select locations.

Curious, you ask why One Stop pairs with Canco rewards and the cashier begins to tell you a story.

It turns out that One Stop is usually found next to Canco gas stations and just because there is no gas here on Bernard Avenue, you still get to take advantage of the extra savings. You also learn that One Stop is owned by two local brothers, Pavneet and Jasmeet, who also own Pita Pit and Fresh Slice down the street as well as the ones in Orchard Park Shopping Centre and UBC.

Equipped with goodies and anecdotes, you leave with the knowledge that a few people have been quietly developing a strong Kelowna community for over 11 years! It turns out your inclination that some locals actually did know that Downtown Kelowna needed a convenience store like this was correct.

With a satiated hunger and a bowl of frozen ice cream pebbles, you get back to the beach so quickly that one of your friends didn't even realize you were gone.<who>Photo Credit: NowMedia</who>
