Kelowna law firm celebrating 50th anniversary with 50 good deeds in the community

A local law firm is celebrating its 50th anniversary in a pretty awesome way — by giving back to the community that it has served for the past five decades.

Each member of the team at Doak Shirreff Lawyers LLP has been contributing to the company’s goal of performing 50 Good Deeds for 50 Good Years by participating in various volunteer opportunities throughout the city.

“This community has given so much to us the last 50 years. We wanted to highlight that and give back,” said Christy Lovig, a Partner at Doak Shirreff.

By volunteering their time and expertise, the firm and its employees have supported several local charities such as Mamas for Mamas, Elevation Outdoors, the SPCA, JCI Kelowna, the Kelowna Women’s Shelter, Inn from the Cold, MADD, The Foundry, YMCA and many more.

Several members of the firm’s team are also involved in athletics, either as volunteer coaches, event organizers or by taking part in fundraisers. As well, many of the employees at Doak Shirreff give back by doing what they do best and offering their law services for charities pro bono.

“Every business and individual in Kelowna supports each other one way or another. We are here for people when they need us, and we enjoy giving back to charities, fundraisers and events to keep our community vibrant and diverse,” Kate Snowsell, another Doak Shirreff Partner.

“It is a great way to connect with different people in the community and help build positive change,” added Alison McLeod, a Doak Shirreff Associate.

Although Doak Shirreff has this special goal in mind for its 50th anniversary, it’s by no means the first time that the company has been involved in the community. The law firm has been involved in community events and fundraisers for years.

As a company, the benefits of giving back are undeniable. Not only does it benefit the community in which we live and work, but it also offers employees an added sense of purpose and fosters a positive workplace culture.
