Popular downtown Vernon street shutdown returning this summer

The downtown Vernon 2900 Plaza is back! From July 7th to September 3rd, the 2900 block of 30th Ave – the block the Towne Theatre is on – will be closed for the fun-filled pedestrian plaza!

There will be picnic tables, game tables and umbrellas so you can comfortably chill out downtown for the day. It will be the go-to hangout destination for locals and visitors of the surrounding area all summer long.

<who>Photo Credit: Tourism Vernon</who>Businesses on the block will be extending their operations out into the sidewalk and street, creating a patchwork of local enterprises filling the avenue for the season with tonnes of stuff to keep Vernon engaged.

Get out of the house for an afternoon and take a stroll down the block to check out what our local vendors are up to. Have a look at the abundant offerings of the heart of downtown and soak in the laid-back vibe Vernon is known for.

You will be treated to spectacular live music and entertainment throughout the week, including solo artists at 12:00 pm from Tuesday to Saturday and DJ Lunchboxx on Friday evenings that will fill the streets with upbeat, positive energy.

Downtown Sounds (formerly Civic Sounds) will be happening every Thursday evening from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm featuring a variety of the best local bands and artists. Discover your new favourite songs, pack a picnic basket or try some new food from one of the delicious local restaurants downtown and enjoy reconnecting with fellow locals.

Stopping by the 2900 Plaza is a great way for you to get out and discover the wonderful businesses Vernon has to offer and to support the flourishing culture and community of the downtown core as well. It’s also a fun way to get out of town while having a great time in that sunny Okanagan weather we’ve all become accustomed to living in the valley!

Vernon Teach and Learn, a staple of downtown since 1990, will be expanding their legendary wares out onto the street with their new and nostalgic toys, activities and of course – their old-fashioned $2 ice cream cones! Stop by for a cold scoop of tasty ice cream with the family and check out the fun and educational resources the store has become adored for across Canada.

Thirty One & Main will also be out on the street with their unique, European-inspired high-quality clothing and jewelry items imported from Spain, France, Denmark and more. Find a whole new look or the perfect accessory to put the finishing touch on your favourite outfit.

Grab a warm or cool drink at the local hotspot Bean Scene and sit on the patio in the sun, or relax on one of the old-fashioned chairs in their cozy upstairs area and overlook the street. Pick up a bite to eat at one of the fantastic local restaurants on the strip including Mahoroba Japanese Restaurant, The Italian Kitchen, Los Huesos, and Marten Brew Pub, claim your picnic table and spend an incredible day outside with other members of the community.

There are plenty of other activities, demonstrations and games planned to keep the city entertained for the entire summer season. So grab your friends and family and head downtown, because Downtown 2900 Plaza is the place to be this summer!
