Banff in January is a winter wonderland, and this year’s SnowDays Festival didn’t disappoint. The highlight– Skijoring Canada’s thrilling event, which brought snow, speed, and style to the heart of Banff. Here’s how you can recreate our incredible itinerary for an unforgettable winter getaway.

Getting There and Where to Stay

Flying into Calgary International Airport (YYC) is the easiest way to begin your adventure. After landing, we stayed at the Delta Calgary In-Terminal Hotel, a perfect choice for convenience and comfort.

I love being able to just grab my bags and head to my hotel only a few steps away rather than waiting for an Uber in -20 degrees and driving to a hotel.

The hotel did a lobby activation as well, offering a salsa bar! If you are driving to the hotel, they will valet park your car as part of their current park and fly promotion. You can find the details for this promotion going on until March 31st here.

From there, we hopped on the Brewster airport transfer, which whisked us directly to our hotel in Banff, allowing us to relax and soak in the mountain views along the way.

In Banff, we stayed at the Banff Park Lodge, a cozy and welcoming retreat just steps from the heart of town. The lodge offered a comfortable base to explore everything the SnowDays Festival had to offer.

SnowDays Festival Highlights

Skijoring: The Main Event

Skijoring is a spectacle like no other. Picture this: daring cowboys and cowgirls on horseback racing through the snow, towing skiers who perform jumps, tricks, and stunts at exhilarating speeds.

The energy was electric as the crowd cheered for their favorite teams. Beyond the action, the fashion was a show in itself. Cowboy hats, fur coats, fringe, and leather gave the event a uniquely chic Western vibe.

I found my fur look at House of Angelica, my favourite place to shop when I’m in Banff. This locally owned boutique has the best chic style in the Rockies. You can shop this coat and hat and other styles online here.

The next chance to catch Skijoring Canada is in Calgary on February 15 and 16 at The Confluence Historic Site & Parklands.

SkijorDue 2025 promises two days of high-energy performances, trick riding, stunt sliding, spectator style awards, and an all-day après-ski party. Don’t miss it! Find tickets here.

Snow Sculpting and More

The SnowDays Festival also featured awe-inspiring snow sculptures throughout downtown Banff. These intricate works of art added a magical touch to the town’s already picturesque streets. Whether you’re a fan of art or just love taking Instagram-worthy photos, this is a must-see.

Dining in Banff

Fat Ox: A Must-Eat Experience

For foodies, Fat Ox is a culinary gem you can’t miss. This Italian-inspired restaurant offers hearty dishes with a modern twist. We loved the handmade pastas, prawns and elk meatballs —the perfect way to warm up after a day in the snow. Be sure to book a reservation as it’s a favorite among both locals and visitors.

Evening Adventures: Banff Gondola Nightrise

No trip to Banff is complete without a ride on the Banff Gondola, and the Nightrise experience elevates it to the next level.

As the gondola ascends Sulphur Mountain, colorful lights and immersive storytelling make the journey unforgettable. At the summit, we toasted the evening with cocktails at the Sky Bistro, taking in panoramic views of the stars and snow-covered peaks.

It’s a magical way to end a day of adventure.
