Get ready to ride and raise funds, because the Dave McAnerney Ride for Autism, presented by Nicola Wealth, is coming soon!
Previously known as the HM Commercial Ride for Autism, the ride has been renamed the Dave McAnerney Ride for Autism, in honor of the late Dave McAnernery’s love for cycling and unparalleled commitment to the autism community.
McAnerney started the ride in 2015 to bring the local community together in support of individuals on the autism spectrum, like his nephew, MJ.
Canucks Autism Network (CAN) soon became McAnerney’s charity of choice due to the positive impact CAN had on MJ's life.
McAnerney was passionate about raising funds for this incredible organization and supporting the growth of programs and services in Kelowna for individuals on the autism spectrum.
Each year, the ride unites community members of all cycling abilities with a common goal: to raise money in support of CAN’s adapted programming. This year’s event is also welcoming non-cyclists thanks to Wicked Tours who will be providing a shuttle service.
CAN provides a wide range of programming for individuals on the autism spectrum from childhood right through to adulthood. Programs for children focus on sports and recreation, whereas offerings for youth and adults focus on mental health and wellness, social connection, employment and life skills.
This organization is committed to promoting acceptance, accessibility and inclusion for individuals on the autism spectrum across BC.
The route starts and finishes at Kitsch Wines with several other wineries, distilleries and cideries mapped out along the way for riders to visit and explore! During the stops, riders can enjoy tastings and complete fun challenges to be entered to win some amazing prizes.
To win prizes, riders will collect stamps in their ‘passports’ during the ride based on activities they have completed, and at the end, passports will be handed over and entered into the prize draw.
Some of the stops include The Vibrant Vine, Soma Cidery, Forbidden Spirits and Wiseacre Farm Distillery.
This year we are thrilled to announce the ride is already fully sold out! But you can still support by making a donation or by purchasing 50/50 raffle tickets in celebration of CAN’s 15th anniversary.
Tickets start at just $15 and are available for purchase online. You will receive a receipt via email with the list of all numbers associated with the tickets.
Additionally, all 50/50 entrants will also have the opportunity to enter to win a bonus draw. Bonus prizes include:
Chef’s Tasting Menu for 2 at Cin Cin (valued at $300)
Elias Pettersson signed jersey, stick and puck package (priceless)
Vessi & Arc’terx prize package ($270 Vessi gift card, 2 Arc’Teryx Mantis 20 backpacks; total value: $590)
If you’re interested in participating in just the contest, use the code HBDCAN15 (valid from May 15th to May 21st). No purchase necessary. The raffle and prize draw entries close on Wednesday, May 31st at 10 p.m. PST. Must be 19+ and a resident of BC to enter.
This organization is delighted to have supported hundreds of local families in Kelowna over the years and strives to continue Dave's legacy of positively impacting the autism community.
