The spirit of neighbourhood shopping in Rutland, Willow Park Shopping Centre, welcomes you back

With the exciting reveal that all shops in Rutland's Willow Park Shopping Centre have reopened. We thought it may be fun to reimagine the spirit of neighbourhood shopping in Rutland through the innocent lens of a child.

Why? Because when you were a kid, the world was bigger, honest and pure - much like the shared spirit of this community.

Cue harp sounds... it's flashback time.

You remember it as a right of passage for the residents of Rutland. Driving to the community shopping centre, Willow Park, your parents quickly find a spot to park among the many available spaces.

Stepping out of your family vehicle, you admire the vastness of this plaza and follow your parent's lead towards your first destination, IGA. The glorious grocery store welcomes you as you gather fresh fruits, veggies, more things for dinner and hopefully, dessert.

After that, dad departs to get a haircut while mom takes you to Rutland Optical to help you find new glasses. If you're good, you know you'll be rewarded with a special visit to The Purple Seahorse pet store and maybe after, you can get some arts and crafts from Your Dollar Store With More.

While you shop with mom, she casually speaks with the friendly staff members you've come to know. When you see dad again, you're happy to see that he isn't wearing a hat.

After what was a fruitful and memorable afternoon at Willow Park Shopping Centre, it's hard to see how you could have visited every store in one trip. You have one left thing to do though... convince your parents to take a night off from cooking.

Strategizing how you'll ask, you know that your parents picked up groceries for dinner so you try to persuade them that the aroma of pizza, the allure of sushi and the seemingly endless flavours at Wings are an option too. "Wouldn't it be nice to skip washing dishes?" you say... and suddenly mom and dad share a glance. You're close... you think you have ’em, but you need to keep them at the plaza a little longer.

Time to bring out the big one: Kootenay Coffee.

You ask if we can stop at their favourite coffee shop and as always, they agree. When they get their coffee, you get a hot chocolate with a treat. It's the cherry on top of your day and suddenly you're okay with having your parents cook dinner for you.

As an adult, the world needs to be focused and we value convenience and kindness in our lives - all of which are found at Rutlands neighbourhood shopping centre, Willow Park Shopping Centre.

With all shops and services reopened and familiar faces all around, you know that getting everyday necessities isn’t the only reason that makes a trip to Willow Park a worthwhile one.

Testimonials

Purple Seahorse

"The Purple Seahorse Pet Store, in over 49 years, has never been through anything like this before. We made it through because of your support and understanding! I would like to give a huge thank you to Stephanie, Kelsey and staff at the Purple Seahorse. They bravely went in day after day to care for our critters and make sure your pets had what they needed. We look forward to seeing you and your pets this summer."

Panago

"Through these uncertain times, we thank you, the community, for your continued support! We are continuing to evolve our business to keep both our staff and customers safe during these uncommon times. Panago has recently launched a zero contact delivery and pickup program as an option for those customers who wish to limit any personal contact."

WINGS

"Wings in Rutland is a family-friendly restaurant that really fills the gap between a pub and fine dining... we like to call it FUN dining! We weren’t sure what we had to look forward to after the shutdown of COVID-19, but everyone from suppliers and landlords to customers and staff has certainly shown us their support and we are so grateful to be part of the Willow Park Shopping Centre and Rutland community. We have everything from salads, pasta, burgers and steaks too. And of course, there's our award-winning, never frozen, always fresh wings. We have 1/2 price wings all day Wednesdays and Sundays, and when sports are back in this world we have many big-screen TVs. We strive to give great service, great food, great value and of course a great time!"
