When you’re busy building a career, raising tiny humans or just putting others first in general, treating yourself isn’t usually at the top of the to-do list.
The truth is, it’s not uncommon for busy women to forget the last time they washed their hair (three cheers for dry shampoo!), let alone had it professionally cut and styled.
Crimson Hair Salon wanted to recognize some of Kelowna's hardworking women for Valentine's Day, so they ran a facebook contest asking contestants to enter by recognizing why they love themselves. Four lucky winners won a full hair and makeup makeover. Here are the amazing results!
Stephanie Chabot, a 33-year-old Medical Lab Technologist, knew it was time for some pampering: “I’m a mom of two beautiful children, in desperate need of some TLC!”
“Stephanie wanted a low maintenance hair colour with a seamless grow out,” said Cutrina Darbyson, Chabot’s stylist for the day. “We did a full balayage and babylights to brighten her to a cool, platinum blonde and to enhance her blue eyes and skin complexion. We did a blunt bob cut for added volume and texture.”
“Stephanie wanted to step out of her comfort zone and do something she has never done before, said Strand. “We played up her beautiful skin with a subtle contour. We made her eyes pop with a bronzy smokey eye and topped it off with a bold burgundy lip.”
Chabot said she would rate the experience 5/5. “Loved the experience. Amazing group of girls!” she said.
“I needed help!” said Lori Roberts, a 57-year-old retiree, when asked why she entered the contest.
“I wanted to enhance her already beautiful natural silver tones,” said hair stylist Tara Sebastianis. “Lori hadn’t coloured her hair in over a year and was travelling for the next six months so I wanted something easy for her. I wanted to make her overall look brighter and transition her growing into her gray. I did a back to back full head of foils to break up her dark colour underneath.”
“Lori had the most beautiful skin. I didn’t want to take away by adding too much product,” said makeup artist Bailey Strand. “We kept it really light weight on the skin, with a makeup forever water based foundation. We naturally enhanced her eyes and finished everything off with a pop of pink cream blush.”
“I love it here,” said Roberts once her makeover was complete. “This has been the best experience I’ve had in a long time!”
Anne Furgason, a 53-year-old Registered Nurse, was actually entered into the contest by her daughter. “She felt I work hard and I deserve it,” said Furgason. “Plus, it’s fun! Everyone wants to feel young, vibrant and happy.”
“On Anne, I wanted to focus on hair health. We did a conditioning multi dimensional colour including chocolate brown shades,” said professional stylist Roxy Chahley. “Anne is trying to grow out her length so we went in and refreshed her ends while blending in her layers to make the grow out as easy as possible! Anne’s deep new colour brings out her beautiful eyes and reflects her warm personality.”
“Anne wanted to fill in her brows to bring attention to her eyes and frame her face,” said Strands. “Anne naturally had the most amazing bone structure, so I really wanted to play up her cheek bones with a beautiful highlight and sculpted contour.”
When asked about the experience afterward, Furgason was delighted. “Roxy was very passionate about my hairstyle and colour, and Bailey was a perfect makeup artist,” she said.
“I care for so many other people on a regular basis at work and home, I wanted a refresher,” said Heather Hulka, a 38-year-old Registered Nurse. “I also haven’t cut my hair for a year so I thought it was time for a change!”
“We started by cutting off five inches of her hair, which lifted and opened up her beautiful face,” said Leah Woodman, Hulka’s hair stylist for the makeover. “Heather didn’t want a drastic change with her colour so we decided to enhance her natural colour. We used a balayage technique to create a soft, sunkissed look. This will grow out nicely and lighten up more naturally for summer.”
“Heather doesn’t wear any makeup at all. We kept everything very natural with a light champagne colour on the lid and loads of mascara on her naturally full and long lashes,” said makeup artist Bailey Strand. “The lashes are definitely the star of the show.”
“This was amazing,” said Hulka, about the makeover experience. “Everyone was friendly and the environment was fun and relaxing. It was a special treat and the experience was great.”
