This company is taking the hassle out of parking in Kelowna with their mobile app

We’ve all been there, rushing down the sidewalk to see if we got a parking ticket because we forgot how much time we put in the meter. Or maybe our appointment ran long so we’re tapping our foot in the elevator waiting to get moving. Sound familiar?

Thankfully, PayByPhone Technologies Inc. has the solution to some of the pesky parking problems we’ve all experienced. With over 20 million registered users worldwide, this mobile app is providing a convenient way to pay for parking and avoid parking tickets.

How does it work?

It’s all in the name. When you pull into a parking lot or park on the street, look for the PayByPhone signage and check the location number. After you park, input the lot number into the app on your phone, pick your duration and confirm. Payment is done coin-free, so no more rummaging around in your seats for a couple dollars.

No more being restricted to using coins and only being able to park for a couple hours. Now you can pay from your phone and extend your time when necessary.

Your parking information will then be sent to all the handheld units of the officers on parking patrol and you’re good to go. You no longer have to memorize the time that you need to be back because you will get a notification when your time is running out — it’s that easy!

If you’re stuck in an appointment or lunch is running long, you can simply add more time from your phone to avoid getting any parking tickets. You can either gauge how long it will take to get back to your vehicle or simply add some more time through the app and take your time.

Where is it?

Because PayByPhone is so convenient, it has been spreading quite rapidly. This app has been introduced to over 300 cities across Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Australia and the United States. This includes Kelowna, Vernon and the Lower Mainland.

You can find PayByPhone at street parking locations in downtown Kelowna, and at select lots in Kelowna, such as the City Park Lot, Chapman Parkade on Lawrence Avenue, the Library Plaza Parkade on Ellis Street and the Pandosy Street Parking Lot. This takes the stress out of parking, and couldn't we all use a bit less stress?

Have you ever parked and lost track of where your vehicle is? Well, you're not alone. You can access the map in the app, pick your parking location and pin your vehicle so that you can easily find your way back when it's time to leave. To find the closest PayByPhone location to your home or work, check out this map!

On top of making the user’s life easier, another reason that this app is being picked up by so many cities is that it lowers the costs of parking infrastructure and parking revenue collection. The city can rely less on payment machines and meters so that they can reinvest that money into other projects throughout the city.
