The two University of Montreal students, Etienne Lemieux and Louis-Vincent Lessard, were last seen on July 6th in Queenstown. They had left Canada for an outdoor adventure and backpacking trip. The two 23-year-olds are believed to have killed in an avalanche as their bodies were recovered near avalanche debris.

Both families have been advised of this latest development, and police will continue to liaise with the Canadian High Commission in New Zealand and authorities in Montreal. The bodies have been transported to Te Anau by helicopter for official identification.

A Facebook group has been flooded with messages of condolences to the families following the news the men’s bodies had been located.
