Q103.1 just rebranded and changed formats

In the wake of disappointing ratings and the departure of program director Susan Knight, Q103.1 has undergone a major change.

So major that it’s not even Q103.1 anymore.

The Jim Pattison owned radio station has changed its name and flipped formats, going almost a completely opposite direction than the previous top 40 format.

Q103.1 is now 103.1 Beach Radio, playing hits from the 80s and 90s from stars like Bon Jovi, The Cure, AC/DC, Michael Jackson, Tom Petty and much more.

“I believe this will be Kelowna’s new number one pre‐set in the car,” said Program Director Russell James. “I apologize in advance to the bosses, there will be some people late for work, getting out of the car will
be difficult!”

James also explained why Beach Radio was picked as the name for Kelowna's newest radio station.

“The Central Okanagan is home to more than 30 public beaches, although none of them played music until now," James explained. "We are now officially the community's 31st beach, the fun one that plays the greatest hits of
the 80s and 90s”

The station was launched with a pre-recorded announcement at noon before it jumped into the first song of its new era, which was Don’t Stop Believing by Journey.

No announcements about on-air staff have been made, but there will surely be additions made and a new lineup unveiled in the near future.

Darren Worts and Danny Kid are the only remaining on-air talents at the station following the departure of Knight, Robin Farrell and Brooklyn Driediger last month.
