One of the most beloved events on the fall calendar for Okanagan skiers and boarders has been cancelled.
The Big White Ski Club has announced they are calling this year's fundraising event due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Scheduled for Oct. 23 and Oct. 24, it would have been the 50th annual swap event for the club.
“This was a difficult decision to cancel our 50th Annual Ski, Board & Sport SWAP, but Covid-19 restrictions on group sizes and safety protocols would make it impossible to operate our largest
fundraiser of the year," said club president, Dave Willoughby.
"This will have a significant impact on our club’s finances, which helps support close to 150 athletes each season. This event has become a go-to event for many locals and we hope to be back next year to continue to support our community and our dedicated regulars who come every year, supporting our club.”
Funds raised through the annual ski swap are utilized to help support the Big White Ski Club, a non-profit organization, that for over 60 years has provided world-class ski training.
"The club has taken pride in developing strong skiers, athletes and even future National Team and Olympians," added Willoughby.
