More than 10,000 children's teethers recalled after some found to be contaminated with bacteria

More than 10,000 children’s teethers have been recalled over concerns they could be contaminated with bacteria.

Anyone in possession of the Nûby Three-Pack Ring Chill koolSoother Teether is urged to stop using the product immediately, Health Canada said.

They were on sale between March and November of this year.

“Health Canada's sampling and evaluation program found some samples that were contaminated with the bacteria Bacillus cereus,” the agency explained.

“These bacteria generally do not cause illness in healthy individuals.

“However, the bacteria can affect children with weakened immune systems, causing stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhea, if the teether is punctured and the liquid filling is ingested.”

Health Canada said that, as of Nov. 23, there have been no reports of sickness in Canada.

Consumers are advised to head here for replacement teethers.

In the short period the teethers were on sale, 10,686 were purchased.

Last month, several thousand teethers sold by a different company were also recalled.
