Thousands of children's teethers recalled due to bacteria contamination

Thousands of children’s teething devices have been recalled, Health Canada has announced.

The Infantino 3-Pack Water teethers – sold at Winners – were found to be contaminated with microorganisms.

An evaluation by the agency discovered the presence of the bacteria Sphingomonas sp.

“The bacteria is usually harmless, but may cause an infection in children if the toy is punctured and the liquid filling is ingested,” Health Canada explained.

There have been no reports of any harmful incidents involving the products, however.

Infantino said 3,672 of the teethers were sold in Canada between April and July 2022.

Parents and carers are urged to immediately stop using the teethers and contact the company for guidance.
