Kinton Ramen has been a busy spot in downtown Kelowna over the last few weeks.
The city’s newest ramen joint officially opened to the public in November and is now ready to officially invite residents for a meal.
The grand opening celebration for Kinton Ramen at 570 Bernard Ave. is happening today.
The festivities will be kicked off at 10:40 am with a special Taiko Drums performance, setting the stage for the restaurant to open at 11 am.
For the entire day until closing time at 9 pm, guests can enjoy 50% of all signature ramen dishes, whether you’re craving pork, chicken, beef or a vegetarian dish.
Kinton Ramen is a product of executive chef Aki Urata and, believe it or not, it was born from a natural disaster in his home country of Japan.
“A big earthquake hit Kobe, destroying my house, school and the restaurant I worked at,” Urata explained. “During the cold winter, we started a food truck, and seeing how grateful people were made me realize ramen is a great business.”
Since its launch in 2012, Kinton Ramen has become one of the largest ramen chains in North America with over 40 locations across five provinces and states.
That includes restaurants in New York, Illinois, Quebec, Ontario and five pre-existing locations here in British Columbia.
The chain is part of the Kinka Family, which is the group behind some of Canada’s most beloved Japanese restaurants in Kinka Sushi Bar Izakaya, JaBistro and Kintori Yakatori.
