Kelowna Mayor Colin Basran is part of a groundswell of opposition to the provincial government’s proposed “speculation tax”.
The tax would target real estate owned by non-residents in certain B.C. cities including Kelowna and West Kelowna.
Mayor Basran said while the purpose may be to target speculators, the tax would instead hurt owners of vacation homes. He’s reaching out to Premier John Horgan for a meeting over what he said is the single most important issue facing the city at the moment.
Basran paid us a visit at KelownaNow to explain why.
