In an unexpected announcement that is getting mixed reaction from Air Miles collectors, the company revealed that users’ points will no longer be expiring at the end of the year as planned.
The Air Miles Reward Program is cancelling the expiry policy that was scheduled to take effect on December 31st, 2016. This means there will no longer be a deadline in place for collectors to use their Miles.
"We have made the decision to cancel the expiry policy for all collectors effective immediately,” said CEO Bryan Pearson. “There is uncertainty with provincial governments proposing or considering legislation across Canada so we have decided to cancel the expiry policy so that all collectors, regardless of location, can be confident that their balances will be protected.”
Despite the retraction of the expiration policy, some people are still upset at the company. When Air Miles were first set to expire, many collectors decided to use theirs up.
@kvallevand @jpmacnab airmiles is the biggest sham ever... collected for YEARS and had enough points to taxi to the runway!

I am pissed at @AIRMILES for their constant bs! The 11th hour decision to not have miles expire means I wasted miles for nothing
