US President Joe Biden has said there is "absolutely no justification" for the criminal behaviour seen during unrest near Minneapolis after a young black man was killed by a police officer near the city. Police in Brooklyn Center released a video apparently showing Daunte Wright, 20, attempting to flee police during an arrest and being shot. The officer who shot him then told her colleagues it was an accident, and that she had meant to use an electric discharge weapon.

Nepal's rhino population has increased to 752, conservationists have said. In 2015 there were only 645 one-horned rhinos in the country, experts explained. More than 90% of the impressive creatures live in Chitwan National Park.

More than a million tonnes of contaminated water from the destroyed Fukushima nuclear plant will be dumped into the sea, Japan has said. Neighbours including China and South Korea – along with fishing groups – have complained about the plan. Officials in Japan said the water will be diluted so that radiation levels are very low.

Actor Hank Azaria has apologized for voicing much-loved "Simpsons" character Apu. There have been complaints in recent years that Apu, who is an Indian immigrant that runs a convenience store in fictional Springfield, is based on stereotypes. Azaria said he agrees with those complaints, adding: "Part of me feels like I need to go around to every single Indian person in this country and personally apologise."

Facebook has been attacked once again for deleting a page containing a word that the American tech giant does not understand. This time the official page for the town of Bitche in France was deleted. Earlier this year, a page discussing the English delicacy of faggots was threatened with deletion.
