1. COVID-19 guidance changes in US

Unvaccinated Americans are no longer being encouraged to quarantine after exposure to COVID-19 as part of a shift in official guidance for dealing with the virus. An epidemiologist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the new advice "helps us move to a point where COVID-19 no longer severely disrupts our daily lives."

2. Man arrested after being rescued from tunnel near Vatican

A man has been arrested after police rescued him from a collapsed tunnel near the Vatican in Rome. Officers believe the man could have been attempting to burrow his way into a bank.

3. European drought drying out rivers

Europeans are becoming increasingly worried about their rivers as the continent endures a long, hot summer. Parts of the Rhine – Germany's most important waterway – have dried up to such an extent that they are becoming difficult to sail through, intensifying concerns about the country's economy.

4. Sturgeon Moon delights observers

People around the world have been delighting in the fourth – and final – supermoon of 2022. The Sturgeon Moon was captured in all its glory by photographers around the globe.

5. Oslo authorities warn celebrity walrus might have to be killed

Authorities in Oslo have warned that a visiting walrus might have to be put down after becoming a tourist attraction in the city. They said crowds have been getting too close to the huge marine mammal, which has been named Freya.

And lastly...

In stranger news, a brown bear has been rescued in Turkey after it got high on hallucinogenic honey. The bruin was recorded looking dazed and confused before being taken to a vet for treatment.
