1. Volodymyr Zelensky named Time's 2022 person of the year

Ukraine's president Volodymyr Zelensky has been named the person of the year for 2022. The 44-year-old has been recognized for his leadership as Ukraine has been invaded and at war with Russia since the beginning of the year.


2. The Royal Canadian Mint to release new toonie to honour late Queen Elizabeth II

The Canadian Mint has announced it will be releasing a new coin with a black ring in honour of the Queen, who died in September. The black ring is said to symbolize a mourning armband. About five million coins are expected to be created and will enter circulation later this month.


3. Last Boeing 747 jumbo jet rolls off assembly lines

After more than 50 years, the last 747 rolled off the assembly line this week. Nearly 1,600 planes have been created and in 2020 Boeing said it would stop producing the planes as customers found more fuel-efficient options. This last plane is set to carry cargo.


4. Pearl Harbour survivors scheduled to gather in remembrance

A group of veterans is set to gather at the scene of the Japanese bombing that hit Hawaii 81 years ago. The group is expected to be small as many survivors are approaching 100-years-old. More than 2,400 US service men were killed in the attack on Dec. 7, 1941, which launched the beginning of World War II.


5. German officials arrest 25 accused of planning to storm parliament

German federal prosecutors say a "group of far-right" figures were planning to storm the country's parliament building in what is being dubbed "Day X." About 3,000 officers took part in the more than 150 raid operations Wednesday morning.
