1. Canadian writer RM Vaughan found dead after going missing

Richard RM Vaughan, age 55, was found deceased over the weekend after being reported missing on Oct. 13, 2020. Vaughan was an author, playwright and artist, and was a beloved figure in Canada's LGBTQ arts scene. Police in Fredericton, Ontario said that they are not treating his death as suspicious.

2. Thousands celebrate in Chile following plebiscite vote to rewrite constitution

In April of next year, a 155-member assembly will be elected to draft a new constitution after Chileans voted in support of rewriting it. The document dates back to the dictatorship of Gen Augusto Pinochet.

3. Washington State officials eradicate the first 'murder hornet' nest in the US

The Washington State Department of Agriculture destroyed the first nest of Asian giant hornets in the US. Entomologists dealt with the nest by vacuuming the insects out of a tree near Blaine, Washington.

4. Dog tests positive for COVID-19, a first in Canada

A Niagara-area dog is the first in Canada to test positive for COVID-19, but experts say there is nothing to worry about. The dog belongs to a household where four out of six members tested positive for the virus. The dog had no symptoms and a low viral load, suggesting that pets remain at a low risk for becoming severely ill.

5. Bette Midler confirms 'Hocus Pocus' cast will reunite for sequel

According to Entertainment Canada, everyone’s favourite three witches are reuniting on screen. ET said that a sequel to cult-classic Halloween comedy Hocus Pocus had been greenlit for Disney+. Bette Midler confirmed in an interview, saying “They want to make a movie, they’ve asked us if we were interested and of course all of us said yes.”
