1. Trump officially nominates Amy Coney Barrett for the Supreme Court

President Donald Trump officially nominated Amy Coney Barrett to fill the Supreme Court vacancy left by Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Saturday. Barrett is currently a federal judge on the 7th US Circuit Court of Appeals. Confirmation hearings for Barrett will begin on October 12.

2. TikTok ban temporarily blocked in the US

A federal judge has granted TikTok’s request for a preliminary injunction following an emergency hearing, halting a ban on the app hours before it was meant to come into effect.

3. Texas officials warn of brain-eating organism found in water system

A warning was issued to several communities near Houston advising residents to avoid drinking tap water due to the potential presence of brain-eating amoeba called Naegleria fowleri. The warning was issued on Friday and removed for most, but not all, on Saturday.

4. At least 16 people killed amid clashes between Azerbaijan and Armenia

At least 16 people are dead after fighting broke out in the Armenian region of Nagorno-Karabakh, which is located within Azerbaijan, on Sunday morning. Armenia's Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan declared martial law and issued the general mobilisation of troops.

5. Ontario is reporting 491 new cases of COVID-19, the highest since May

The provincial new-case number — the highest since May 2 — compares to 435 new cases reported on Saturday and 409 on Friday. Ontario’s death toll stands at 2,839.
