Osoyoos Getaway Itinerary

To launch an upcoming 'Chasing Summer' getaway contest with Genesis Kelowna and Walnut Beach Resort, KelownaNow contributor, Juliana Loewen had this Osoyoos experience to share with you.

Like Juliana, you too can have a similar experience that includes test driving a Genesis and staying at the Walnut Beach Resort. To enter, watch for the upcoming 'Chasing Summer' contest on KelownaNow, PentictonNow and KamloopsNow.

We’re blessed here in the Okanagan to have places we can visit that make us feel like we’re on vacation while still in our own backyard.

An Osoyoos trip will make you feel just like this.

KelownaNow will be giving away three trips to Osoyoos, and if you were following along @loewenlifestyle on Instagram this past weekend (Nov 14 -15, 2020), you’ll know we went down to create an itinerary tailored just for you!

The drive from Kelowna to Osoyoos is one of my favourite scenic trips by far but never is the view better than when the rows of orchards and vineyards flash their golden leaves and provide pastoral photos of deer communing with autumn.

Genesis Kelowna is providing our three lucky winners with a 2021 Genesis G70 to take you away on this incredible getaway.

From the quilted Nappa leather interior, heated and cooled seats, heated steering wheel, and adaptive speed cruise control, to the Genesis logo puddle lamps that shine on the ground, you’ve never felt so pampered by a vehicle before.

Lane keep assist, heads up display, adaptive cornering headlights, and the multiview camera system are just a few of the many luxurious features. You’ll have a difficult time returning this sportscar; we sure did.

A stay at The Walnut Beach Resort is what every Lakeview lover needs.

Awake to find the serene Osoyoos Lake sparkling through your suite’s towering windows. Cozy up in a Walnut Beach Resort housecoat and step out onto the expansive deck to sip coffee overlooking Haynes Point.

<who>Photo Credit: Juliana Loewen</who>

Suites are equipped with fully stocked kitchens, comfy beds, ensuites, and a dining area, as well as a friendly staff that make sure you have every need met for your stay. Dine-in at the Resort’s Pointe 49 Kitchen & Bar for comfort food entree items like lasagna, prime rib burgers, and meatloaf, all with a view of the outdoor, heated pool.

Have a delicious breakfast sandwich and London Fog at JoJo’s Cafe on Main street. They make everything from scratch and provide a cozy seating area to enjoy your breakfast before starting a busy or relaxing day.

<who>Photo Credit: Juliana Loewen</who>

Jojo’s is conveniently located on Main’s street’s shopping district where you’ll find local vendors and boutiques.

If you’re keen to get your wine tasting on, head to Covert Farms Family Estate.

<who>Photo Credit: Juliana Loewen</who>

Book an epicurean wine tasting delight to sample their organic wines. They even have charcuterie plates and juice sampling for the kids! I love that they could be included.

<who>Photo Credit: Juliana Loewen</who>

Your host will share the story of the property and introduce your first wines, then you’ll be left to sip while sampling curated meats, cheeses, and vegetables from the farm.

Your host will return and share the pairing notes for the remaining wines before letting you indulge on the rest of your feast.

On the property live alpacas, pigs, chickens, farm dogs and more. Kids and adults will love the jumping pillow and yard games made available to guests. Farm tours are also available.

Next to visit is the Osoyoos Desert Model Railway where over 25000, hand-painted little people ‘live’ in over 4000 square feet of a handcrafted miniature world.

<who>Photo Credit: Juliana Loewen</who>

45 trains zoom around on tracks that will delight all age groups. There is even a ‘nighttime’ simulation to view this fantasyland lit up. The Amazing Race visited this spot for a challenge in 2015! I dare you to look for the nude beach!

Dinner reservations at Campo Marina are a must!

This Italian restaurant is located minutes from the resort and the endless line of people trying to eat here is a testament to its fine selection of Mediterranean dishes and wine selection.

<who>Photo Credit: Juliana Loewen</who>

Our boys loved the boats mounted on the ceiling and cozy booths to snuggle in. We enjoyed the escargot in a cognac cream sauce, pan-fried BC sockeye salmon with sundried tomato tapenade and balsamic reduction, Spaghetti con Polpette, and peanut butter & chocolate porter from Bad Tattoo.

<who>Photo Credit: Juliana Loewen</who>

Don’t miss getting a few photos of you in your Genesis G70 at Anarchist Mountain Lookout during golden hour. This will give you panoramic views of Osoyoos, Washington State, Osoyoos lake, and Haynes Point.

<who>Photo Credit: Juliana Loewen</who>

In the morning, grab a latte and a cinnamon bun in an igloo at Junction 3 Coffee House, also located close to the resort! With two igloos, equipped with heaters to keep you warm, you can relax and enjoy feeling enclosed in your own little bubble.

This is a great place to support a local business and enjoy the creations of talented baristas.

Our last stop has us entering the grounds at Nk’mip Cellars, North America’s first Aboriginal-owned winery.

<who>Photo Credit: Juliana Loewen</who>

A wine sampling in their amazing tasting room is not an experience to be missed.

The knowledgeable staff will lead you through the wines delivered by Nk’Mip’s loyal winemaker who has been with the establishment for 20 years. His love and passion come through the wine as much as the berry, black pepper and caramel come through their Talon, named for the spirit of the Thunderbird.

<who>Photo Credit: Juliana Loewen</who>

Dozens of other award-winning wineries line the trail back home, remember to drink responsibly as you enjoy the fruits of this unique terroir.

We love having you join us on our local trips through BC, follow along on @loewenlifestyle for more local business love and travel or to share with us your BC destination suggestions!
