(UPDATE: Dec. 13 @ 2:45 pm) - The search for Tomasz Jaholkowski has come to a tragic end.
In an update shared this afternoon, the Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP said that the 68-year-old's body was found at Sun Peaks.
Police said that criminality is not suspected in the missing skier's death, but shared no further details.
The BC Coroners Service has been notified and is investigating.
(Original story: Dec. 12 @ 9:15 am) - Search and rescue, ski patrol and police are all combing Sun Peaks Ski Resort in hopes of finding a missing skier.
Tomasz Jaholkowski, 68, was reported missing on Wednesday, but his last recorded movements were on Tuesday around 11:35 am as he boarded a chairlift on the mountain.
“Mr. Jaholkowski does not appear to have returned to his hotel room, nor has he been heard from since checking into the run on Tuesday,” said Cpl. Crystal Evelyn.
“We are very concerned for his well-being and are asking anyone who may have seen him, or has information on his potential whereabouts, to please contact police as soon as possible.”
Kamloops Search and Rescue (KSAR) was summoned to join the search early Wednesday afternoon.
The ground search is receiving aerial support from helicopters and drones.
“We are releasing photos of Mr. Jaholkowski obtained from the ski lift where he was last observed, as well as an image of him without his ski gear on, in hopes that someone will recall having seen him since that last check-in,” Evelyn explained.
Police also provided the following description of the missing skier:
- Caucasian
- 68 years old
- 5’10”
- Around 180 lbs
- Grey hair
- Brown eyes
- Last seen wearing a red and black ski jacket, dark ski pants and a dark helmet
